Meta won't hold F8 developer event as it focuses on the metaverse
Published on Friday, April 08, 2022 11:15am (GMT +7) by BlockeeMeta announced on Wednesday that it won't be holding its F8 developer conference in 2022. In a blog post, the company stated that it's "pausing" the conference this year while it focuses on new initiatives, such as the metaverse.
"Similar to years past, we are taking a brief break in programming and will not hold F8 in 2022 while we gear up on new initiatives that are all tailored towards the next chapter of the internet, and the next chapter of our company too: building the metaverse," Meta's Diego Duarte Moreira said in the blog post. "Similar to the early stages of the web, building the metaverse will be a collaborative effort at every stage — with other companies, creators and developers like you."
Instead of the F8 developer event, Moreira stated that Meta is looking forward to seeing developers at the company's other events this year, such as the new "inaugural business messaging event," named Conversations, on May 19. Businesses, developers, and partners interested in designing experiences on messaging platforms will be able to attend the conference. At the meeting, Meta also intends to announce new product improvements.
Moreira also said there will be another Connect event later this year, which will focus on the company's "VR, AR, and metaverse platform offerings." At last year's connect event, which took place in October 2021, the company announced its rebrand to Meta, announcing that the new title captured more of its core ambition: building the metaverse.
